Papers of Warren Chappell, 1931-1971.

The collection contains the correspondence, 1943-1971, of Chappell and Sidney R. Jacobs. They chiefly discuss Chappell's design work for Alfred A. Knopf, Random House, and Book of the Month Club, but intersperse many personal observations and comments on the publishing business, particularly the 1966 purchase of Random House by R.C.A. Chapell's letters are frequently illustrated. The collection also contains drawings and greeting cards for the Jacobs', and signatures, 1931, for King Agilulf. Some art work, proofs, and correspondence for The tenth muse: a historic study of the opera libretto, are included. Leopold Tyrmand is a correspondent.
